A man died Wednesday afternoon after police said his vehicle crossed from the right to the left lane on eastbound Interstate 40 in Durham and crashed.

Durham police said they believe the driver had a medical condition that led to the crash.

The man's name was not immediately released.

The crash prompted lane closures as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

This person was a close personal friend who I have known since 1985. I learned of his death around 11:30 PM Wednesday night through a call from his wife. He had a host of health problems all his life and I would guess suffered some sort of medical emergency on this occasion.
