RALEIGH, N.C. — A man was killed Friday evening in a car crash in Raleigh.

Around 9 p.m., officers with the Raleigh Police Department responded to a crash on Creedmoor Road near Manassa Pope Drive.

Officials said 44-year-old Powell Peebles of Tony Tank Lane in Raleigh was traveling south on Creedmoor Road when he tried to pass another car. Peebles lost control of his car, overcorrected and hit the other car before running off the road and striking a tree.

Peebles was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The other driver was not injured.

Reports show speed was a factor in the crash.
