Fayetteville police were investigating a fatal shooting that happened near 6861 Woodmark Drive in the Cliffdale West subdivision early Tuesday.

Police received a call around 2:15 a.m. about a gunshot victim at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. William Earl Barnes III, 19, underwent surgery and later died.

Neighbors said they saw about 15 to 20 cars at the house before the shooting. Bottles of alcohol were strewn across the yard.

Police said Barnes was shot while at a social gathering.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-549-7326 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.

This seems to happen quite a bit in Fayetteville. Can you imagine what that city would really be like if Fort Bragg wasn't there? One word....unliveable. - JohnnyVoodoo

Really? Many would say that Ft. Bragg is the main problem why Fayetteville's crime is the way it is.
