— A man fleeing Fuquay-Varina police last weekend died when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree, police said Wednesday.

Police stopped Aaron Lameak Hester-Bay, 20, at about 10 p.m. Saturday for driving 86 mph on North Main Street, police said. As an officer approached Hester-Bay's 2002 Mercedes Benz at an Exxon station on the corner of U.S. Highway 401 and Hilltop Road, Hester-Bay drove off at a high rate of speed, police said.

The officer jumped back into his patrol car and attempted to follow Hester-Bay, but he lost sight of the Mercedes on Hilltop Road, police said. The officer continued south on the road and came upon the wrecked Mercedes, which had run off a curve in the road and hit a tree.

Hester-Bay was transported to WakeMed in Raleigh, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The state Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.

superk: I was only kidding!! I was making fun of the cop bashing on here. What I said was stupid, and that is exactly the kind of stupid comments made on here by cop-bashers. Just thought I would help them get started. LOL

    hey lovesomegolo,
please try to understand the difference between folks who criticize high-speed chases and cop-haters. there's a big difference. i personally don't like to see unnecessary high speed chases result in collateral civilian damage (there are other ways to catch the bad guys). that don't mean i'm a cop-hater. i like cops, they do lots of good and keep our society straight. dig?

wow... wonder if he made it as far as the RR crossing on Hilltop - at ~80mph, he would have gone airborn!

OK, Redneck Fun. The article states the officer had to get back into his car. That was when the male took off at a high rate of speed. Sounds like he was "running" without the law chasing him at the time of his wreck. The officer should not be fired!!

In all seriousness, my prayers go to his family and friends. Sad to see someone lose their life @ 20yrs old. I hope others learn from his death!!

You know the police did not stop chasing him, and never lost site of him!! He was chasing him for a minor traffic violation? Come on!! This officer should be fired and charged with manslaughter!!

    Hope this helps. LOL
