Man dies after Durham Freeway shooting

Posted March 21, 2011

— A man wounded early Saturday in a drive-by shooting on the Durham Freeway died early Monday, police said.

Demario Eugene Carr, 26, of Davinci Street, was shot in the head while riding in a northbound car on N.C. Highway 147 near North Roxboro Street. Police said another vehicle pulled alongside the car, and someone in the second vehicle opened fire.

The driver of the vehicle Carr was in then drove to Durham police headquarters, and an ambulance took Carr to Duke University Hospital.

Investigators said the shooting doesn't appear to be random violence, and they are following several leads. No charges have been filed.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Durham police at 919-560-4440, extension 29332, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

I live in Durham and have for 18yrs. And all you all talk about is this only happens in Durham. I have also lived in Cary and Raleigh. And things like this happened there too! Durham is what you make of it. I have never had any problems here in Durham. You stay to yourself and you mind your own business then no one will mess with you. Simple as that. So don't direct all the crime to Durham. I live in one of the worst neighborhoods that Durham has. For over 8yrs and nothing ever happened to me! So don't tell me that Durham is bad! Durham is what you make of it. Just like the towns that you live in.

"I suppose since most people in durham live off the working man's money that idea may make sense but trust me it doesn't."

Do you really think that or is that something you learned on the "Propaganda News Network" or "Ignorant News Network"? I always thought Americans were too civilized to believe this type of lie. I bet the German Jews thought the same about the Nazi propaganda machine.

@Deathrow, are you kidding?? Do you really think this was “victimless crime”?...because everyone “involved were of the criminal element in some manner”?

You realize that you’re advocating suspending our due process under the law that is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution?

Maybe you can tell us which crimes justify your deathpenalty...in your opinion, of course. Shoplifting? Carrying cartons of cigarettes across state lines without paying taxes? Taking an ink pen from work? Punching a guy for soliticing sex with your wife?

If you really feel this way, I’m not sure that country is the one for you. Or, maybe it is, but you’re just a few hundred years too late.

Firing into a travelling car endangers all drivers on the road, so for everyone else at least, this was "random violence".

I know people who are criminals......does that make me one? And where in the story does it state that "all involved were of the criminal element"? One of the gang rituals is trying to kill people who flash their lights at you in an attempt to remind you that your lights aren't on. By your definition, the person who just doing what he thought was a good deed, now is classified as a criminal because the gang members went after him. You know it all need to shut up until you get ALL of the facts. Otherwise, you are just speculating and assuming.

Just an FYI that old played out line about getting killed by a gang flashing headlights are false

"get a different job so you don't have to go to Durham."

Great idea....leave a job I have had for 14 years because our office moved to RTP. I suppose since most people in durham live off the working man's money that idea may make sense but trust me it doesn't.

Similar thing recently happened to some of the G105 crew. Has been happening occasionally for a few months now that I know of. And whether the guy that got shot had a record or not, he didn't deserve to be gunned down driving down the road! How can you guys really think that?!? That makes you as nuts as the criminals are, but we are in a very angry culture here.

    Deathrow, 100% agree.

Looks like another gang get even...not random at all. Durham is no different than Raleigh, Greensboro, Charlotte, Atlanta, etc from that respect...if you're doing wrong with the wrong then these things are the norm. Durham is just as good as anywhere else...unfortunately the bad guys get all the headlines and people are quick to judge.

I love how Durhamites defend Durham, I'm from Detroit and I'll defend the big D, but from my perspective, if I am ever missing Detroit, I roll over to Durham and it makes me feel like I'm home again.
