RALEIGH, N.C. — A 62-year-old Raleigh man who was struck by a car on Glenwood Avenue over the weekend died Tuesday afternoon at WakeMed, according to the hospital.

Police said Mahmoud "Sammy" Ismail Abdelalim was standing on the sidewalk around 5 p.m. Saturday when a car ran a red light and struck an oncoming vehicle. The second vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Wisam Adnan Al-Dwejhi, ran off the road and hit Abdelalim.

Police said Shana Hoffman Barefoot, 66, was turning left from Hollyridge Drive onto Glenwood when she went through the red light and struck Al-Dwejhi's Audi.

Barefoot was charged with driving without an operator's license and failure to yield the right of way.
