RALEIGH, N.C. — A 32-year-old man and his 13-year-old daughter were shot inside a home in southern Wake County early Wednesday, authorities said.

Wake County deputies responded to the home, in the 11000 block of Old Stage Road near Willow Spring, at about 1:45 a.m.

According to investigators, two men knocked on the door of the home, shot the 13-year-old girl who answered and then entered the home and shot her father.

The girl called 911 to report the shooting, but the dispatcher has trouble understanding her as she struggled to speak.

"I don't know where I am, somewhere in Willow Spring, but someone just shot me," the girl said.

Her father, whom investigators identified as Andrew Louis Bass, later got on the phone as dispatchers sent deputies and paramedics to the home. But they couldn't decipher what he yelled into the phone, and then no one responded to the dispatchers' repeated requests for information.

Bass was treated at WakeMed and released. The girl's name and condition haven't been released.

Neighbors said they didn't know Bass and were surprised to learn a teenage girl lived at the home.

Authorities haven't released a detailed description of the two men wanted in the shooting. They were using K-9 units to search the area near the home, including several vehicles parked nearby.

Sheriff Donnie Harrison said the shooting doesn't appear to be a random act.

"I think this was somebody that knows this residence," Harrison said. "I don't think anybody has anything to worry about here in the neighborhood."

Bass also was injured in a 2011 home invasion at the same residence, authorities said. No one was ever charged in that case.

Harrison said Bass wasn't initially cooperative with investigators, but he attributed that to questioning taking place in a hospital setting.

"I'm sure he'll help us as much as he can, or at least I hope he would. I mean, that was his daughter that got shot," he said.
