RALEIGH, N.C. — A man was critically injured early Friday after he lost control of his car and hit a state Department of Transportation vehicle on Interstate 40 between Aviation Parkway and Harrison Avenue.

According to Highway Patrol officials, Travis Blalock, of Raleigh, slammed into a DOT Incident Management Assistance Patrol vehicle while traveling eastbound on I-40 at about 12:40 a.m.

The IMAP truck had stopped to assist another driver that had crashed due to standing water in the highway.

Blalock was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, troopers said. No other injuries were reported.
