WILMINGTON, N.C. — A federal jury on Monday convicted a Harnett County man in connection with a domestic dispute and shooting at a Spring Lake home a year ago.

Bradley Campbell, 23, of Lillington, was found guilty of kidnapping, carrying a firearm during a crime of violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He will be sentenced later, when he faces 10 years to life in prison.

Ericka Boyd said Campbell, who was her boyfriend, showed up at her home in the Anderson Creek Mobile Home Park on Jan. 17, 2014, and became abusive. When some friends came to her aid, Campbell shot Mark Simon three times in the abdomen, she said.

Boyd was able to escape the home with her 2-month-old son, and one of her friends also escaped. But Campbell held Simon and two other children, a 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, hostage inside.

Campbell made repeated demands to law enforcement that they bring him marijuana, authorities said, and he released Simon after about five hours. The two children were released about two hours after that.

Campbell threatened to kill himself several times during the standoff, authorities said, coming out of the mobile home with a gun to his head before heading back inside.

After about nine hours, he emerged from the house and jumped into a silver, four-door sedan and tried to drive off. Harnett County deputies opened fire on the car, trying to shoot out the tires, and deputies in patrol cars then surrounded the sedan, crashing into it twice from different directions.

More than two dozen law enforcement officers from various agencies surrounded the car with guns drawn, and several tried unsuccessfully to pry open the driver's door. They then broke out the driver's window and pulled the driver out through it and took him into custody.

Campbell also faces state charges of attempted murder and first-degree kidnapping.
