Raleigh, N.C. — A Raleigh man was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter Friday in the death of a man shot in his home more than a year ago.
Michael Alexander Jones, 30, of 6900 Glendower Road, was initially charged with first-degree murder in the Feb. 15, 2011, death of George Devon White, 23.
A jury found him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter, along with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse.
Superior Court Judge Donald Stephens sentenced Jones to between 6½ and nearly 9 years in prison.
Police said that the slaying of White was not a random act. Jones was arrested a few blocks from his house shortly after the shooting.
