Raeford, N.C. — A Raeford man has been charged with trying to set fire to the Hoke County group home where he lives, authorities said Monday.
Joshua Andrew Handforth, 44, of 249 Joyce Lane, was charged Friday with first-degree arson and is being held in the Hoke County jail under a $30,000 bond.
Authorities responded to a fire at the group home Friday evening and determined that Handforth had set a couch ablaze in an attempt to set fire to the house, where four other people live.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and no injuries were reported.
