— Police on Thursday charged a Raleigh man with inappropriately touching a child at a crowded Walmart store in Garner last month.

Mark Anthony Canary, 42,of 740 Bashford Road, was charged with one count each of indecent liberties with a child, first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and indecent exposure.

Police said Canary exposed his genitals to a 7-year-old girl inside the Garner Walmart on Dec. 20 and also tried to commit "a lewd and lascivious act" on the girl, according to an arrest warrant.

Garner investigators searched Canary's house and found child pornography, leading to the sexual exploitation charges, police said. An arrest warrant states that a 9-year-old girl was involved.

Police seized a laptop computer, videotapes, a digital camera and a photo printer from Canary's house, according to a search warrant.

Canary was being held in the Wake County jail under a $1 million bond.

I think the headline meant to use "at" rather than "in". There is a difference.

Darius - get real. Blasernj - you must be one of those people who let their kids run wild.

I agree that parents need to have an eye on their kids at all times wherever they are -- cause the perps are everywhere!!!

No - it didn't used to be like that - but that's the way it is now.

if he had done this was my child this would be his last act in this world.

You're suppose to have your eyes or hands on your kid at all times when out in public. If you did, this wouldn't happen to them. RB-1

I assume you have never had children of your own, otherwise you would know how ridiculous your statement sounds.

I see alot of very young kids running around stores without parents in sight and think " what is wrong with these parents?" I still have a hard time letting my kids out of my sight and they are 12 and 14!!

This man, let me remind each and all of you is innocent until proven guilty. He very may well have had his zipper snagged on the edge of a shelf, and been going "commando" that day, therefore accidentally exposing his ample "package" for a brief moment in the store. That would be an accident. How quick you are to judge Walmart shoppers!

I wonder if they caught him on security cameras and called police? Unfortunately, holding your child's hand doesn't control what they see. There just seems to be no stopping pedophiles short of removing them from society forever.

Like I said earlier that didn't get posted, where were the parents/guardians of this child when this happened?

If you did, this wouldn't happen to them.
