Man charged with stealing lottery tickets

Posted June 13, 2008

— A convenience store cashier has been charged with stealing more than $8,000 in lottery tickets, authorities said Friday.

Chaz Carel Ivery, 23, of 6114 Pine Court in Fayetteville, was charged with embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretense.

Thirty-three packs of lottery tickets were taken from The Pantry at 1571 McArthur Road, authorities said. Someone turned the security camera off in the store at the time of the theft, authorities said.

Ivery was later seen by witnesses and captured on videotape cashing some of the lottery tickets at other Pantry stores, authorities said. He collected $3,740 in prize money between May 1 and May 27, authorities said.

This is almost as good as the pair of rocket scientists a few months back that tried to buy a $4m house with a bogus bank check. Brilliant caper, Chazster....the Chaz-a-rama...Chazzilla...

I have always said that if you are going to try to outsmart someone, you need to be smarter than that individual, this youg man seems to be pretty low on the food chain. I can't believe that he actually thought he could outsmart the Lottery Officials. Wouldn't you think he would have considered that somebody would notice the missing tickets? Especially since they went missing on his watch when the security cam was turned off.
