— A Moore County man has been charged with sending obscene material to a juvenile, authorities said Monday.

Jeffrey Durainte Munnerlyn Jr., 27, of 173 Clay Ridge Road in West End, was charged with disseminating obscenity.

The charge stems from a September report that obscene material was e-mailed to a 13-year-old in West End, authorities said.

Why the presumption that this is a girl? Where did it say this?

So what if it was his "stuff" or anybody else on the Internet? It pretty much all looks the same ;-)

Seriously... I just don't know why a picture matters so much, given the Internet is full of them.

If this was a 13-year-old girl and he was somehow making sexual advances toward her, one would think there is a better law on the books than sending obscene material.

" but I find it very hard to believe that he sent anything that wasn't already readily available on the Internet."

I found it hard to believe that you would be that naive. He most likely sent his "stuff" to the girl.

Bella28, how do you know the 13-year-old was a female? Did it state that in another article, or did I just overlook it here?

In any case, I personally think the "obsentity" laws need serious adjustment. Anybody connected to the Internet can find "obsenity" everywhere. No matter what the guy emailed, I suspect it could have been found with Google.

That does not mean I support the fellow on this one, but I find it very hard to believe that he sent anything that wasn't already readily available on the Internet. So, it is not illegal for Google to reveal it to a person, but it is illegal for somebody to email the same thing? That is stupid.

There are a lot of old laws on the books that need change, including an old law that makes "crimes against nature" illegal. Interpreted with original intent, I think that means all homosexuals are felons. (That really is still on the books! NC GS 14-177.)
