FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police on Monday arrested a man in connection to the disappearance of another man in 2014.

Police said they charged Howard Adrian Ashleman, 24, of Wade, with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the disappearance of James Allan Chambers II. Chambers was last seen on Aug. 15, 2014, and was reported missing on Aug. 24 of that year.

Investigators charged Ashleman on Friday and arrested him Monday in Sophia, North Carolina, according to Fayetteville police. He was placed in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.

In announcing the arrest, police did not say how they linked Ashleman to Chambers’ disappearance and death.

Police at the time of his disappearance said the 28-year-old Chambers went missing after leaving work to run some errands that day in August 2014.
