Man Charged with Car Salvaging Scheme

— Douglas Johnson McGee III, 27, of 1354 Bowden Road in Turkey, was arrested Tuesday for stealing and re-selling cars in Cumberland County.

McGee allegedly towed broken down vehicles from along Interstate 95 and NC 24 and took them to a salvage yard and sold them for scrap metal. Investigators said McGee’s illegal business has netted him thousands of dollars over the past several months.

McGee is charged with three counts of larceny of a motor vehicle and three counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Additional charges are pending.

He was charged and released under a $10,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for todayat 2:00 p.m.

    mac240 - I totally agree! Cars will sit for two weeks or more sometimes, and in high-traffic areas. If you're going to leave it that long, maybe you just don't want it, eh? Too bad the roadside trash isn't worth enough to haul off, too!

    It looks to me like he was doing the state a service. I have never seen so many cars on the side of the road as I do in NC. I live in VA and drive down to NC about every six weeks, I don't need a sign to tell me I've crossed the border, I just look for the broken down cars.
