Man charged with attempted murder in Fayetteville shooting

Authorities said officers responded to a report of a shooting along the 5200 block of Catalpa Road at about 7:50 p.m. Thursday and found two houses that sustained damage from a suspect who fired a gun in the area.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man is facing charges in connection with a shooting that injured a man and damaged two homes last week.

Authorities said officers responded to a report of a shooting along the 5200 block of Catalpa Road at about 7:50 p.m. Thursday and found two houses that sustained damage from a suspect who fired a gun in the area.

Jonathan Fernandez, 33, of the 5200 block of Catalpa Road, was injured during the shooting. He was listed in fair condition at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Monday afternoon.

Morgan Terrell Purcell, 33, of the 6400 block of Rebecca Drive, was charged Monday with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injuries.

Purcell was being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under $150,000 secured bond.
