Man charged with attacking mother
Raleigh police arrested a 39-year-old man they say attacked his mother late on Christmas Day.
Posted — UpdatedInvestigators said that William Haywood Jr. attacked his mother at 811 Beverly Drive shortly before midnight Thursday. His mother defended herself with a knife, and Haywood sustained a cut on his hand, police said.
Haywood faces charges of simple assault. He was being processed in the Wake County Jail Friday morning.
Haywood was convicted of being a habitual felon in Wake County in 2000 and served nearly seven years in prison, according to state Department of Correction records.
In January, he was given probation for assault with a deadly weapon. His criminal record dates to 1987 and includes convictions for selling drugs.
