ENFIELD, N.C. — Halifax County sheriff's deputies arrested an Enfield man Tuesday on charges that he broke into his girlfriend's house and assaulted her.

Deputies said that Kelvis Chamorris Pitts, 28, assaulted his ex-girlfriend at her house on Will Richardson Road. They said that once Pitts went outside, she locked the door and refused to let him back in.

Pitts next broke the window on the front door and reached in to unlock it, deputies said, then he went back in and assaulted her again.

Deputies arrested Pitts at the scene. He was charged with breaking-and-entering, assault on a female, communicating threats and damage to real property.

Pitts was being held in the Halifax County Jail without bond. His first court date was set for Sept. 16.

According to state Department of Correction records, Pitts was placed on probation after being convicted of assault on a female in September 2008. He served five months in 2003 on a revocation of his probation for felony breaking-and-entering and larceny.
