Man charged, released in fatal Fayetteville shooting

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 49-year old man surrendered to police Thursday in connection with a Monday shooting in Fayetteville that left one dead and another injured.

David Soles, of the 600 block of Farrell Avenue, surrendered at the Cumberland County Detention Center, accompanied by his attorney.

Soles was charged with second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon and appeared before a magistrate, who set his bond at $25,000.

Soles was released on bond Thursday evening.

Detectives said Henry Mert Porter, 66, and Henry Mert Porter Jr., 40, both of Fayetteville, were shot during an argument with David Soles, 49, also of Fayetteville. Henry Mert Porter died from his injuries, police said. Henry Mert Porter Jr. was being treated for his injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m.
