FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police on Tuesday arrested a Fayetteville man in connection with a July shooting that killed a Pine Forest High School football standout.

Michael Anthony McArthur, 20, of Vesper Lane, was charged with first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

Officers were called to Club Ciroc, at 6323 Raeford Road, on July 2 after shots were fired outside the nightclub. A man was wounded in the leg during the incident.

About 15 minutes after the shooting, officers responded to a wreck at 6261 Raeford Road and found that William Trower, 18, had been shot in the head. He died at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill the following day.

Investigators haven't released information about a motive for either shooting or said if the two cases were related. They also haven't said whether Trower was at the club before he was shot.

Darian Hogan, 18, of Odom Drive in Fayetteville , was arrested in July on charges of assault with a deadly weapon in the nightclub shooting.
