Man charged in Oxford bank robbery

Posted January 18, 2012

Police on Wednesday arrested a man in connection with a SunTrust Bank robbery in downtown Oxford Tuesday morning.

James Robert Lisenby, 55, was charged with armed robbery and placed in the Granville County jail Wednesday morning under a $250,000 bond.

Investigators said a masked man wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, baggy pants and white tennis shoes entered the bank around 10:30 a.m. Witnesses reported that the bank robber had a handgun, investigators said, but no one was injured in the robbery.

Police arrested him at a home on Hillsboro Street around 4 a.m., they said, after receiving a tip. Lisenby had been staying there for several months but was not a long-term resident of the area.

This man was not desperate. He had a roof over his head, clothes on his back and food in his stomach. If you look at his criminal history on NC DOC, you would see that he is a career criminal. The fear this man instilled in those poor bank employees all for his drug fix, is a good enough reason to leave him behind bars for a long time.

Desperate times make certain people do desperate crimes winding them up in prison for 20 years. Hey, its not worth it and their are plenty of organization out there that can help you. Seek them out.

it's cold outside..maybe he just needs 3 hots and a cot..by the way..some people just "stay" somewhere..not live..??????

I've toured the Granville County jail while on the grand jury. Trust me, it's not the sort of place anyone wants to 'stay' at. There are two large cells that are lit primarily by the lights outside the cells. Right next to the bars, is a stainless steel toilet for 40-50 inmates...absolutely no privacy or dignity there. The only criminals that get individual cells are juveniles and those who are too crazy or dangerous to put in the general population. The jail isn't adequately staffed, so the exercise area is not used. The inmates stay in their cells unless they are being taken across the street to trial.

Often there are more inmates than cots. When I visited, two female inmates were sleeping on the floor on sleeping bags. A tiny, snowy television tuned to soap operas is the only entertainment. I'll take the cold and hunger over jail.

I occasionally bank at this location. The tellers are so friendly and helpful. I glad no one was hurt.

Thanks to the tipster so law enforcement would be able to arrest the robber so quickly. Without the tipster he would probably still be spending the loot.

That bank has been hit a few times, despite having the police and sheriff's department just a couple blocks away.

What is the difference between staying somewhere and living there? If he stayed at the house on Hillsboro Street, he would not have been at the bank to rob it. Maybe if you just stay somewhere you aren't really attached; like someone's baby's daddy not being the same thing as a father.

They were finally released from jail after serving a long prison sentence?

So thankful they caught this man. Much appreciation to the Oxford Police Deparment for apprehending him so quickly.

Thanks for letting us know after the fact. I called yesterday about this issue and nothing was noted for the public safety and general info.
