Man charged in nephew's shooting death

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police charged a man with killing his nephew Tuesday morning after an argument involving two other men.

Ronald Bernard Dowd Jr., 46, faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in the shooting death of Zachary Dowd, 25.

Investigators say Zachary Dowd and his brother were in an argument at around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at 1809 Burton St. when the shooting occurred.

Zachary Dowd died at the scene, and Robert Dowd was arrested shortly after the shooting, police said.

Authorities did not provide any other details about the crime, including what might have led to the argument or if any other charges would be filed in the case.
