Man Charged in Fayetteville Shooting

Fayetteville police have charged a man in an early Friday morning shooting.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police have charged a man in an early Friday morning shooting.

At around 2 a.m. an officer patrolling near Johnson Street heard shots fired in the area. When officers arrived, they heard more shots and detained individuals attempting to leave the area.

Through the course of the investigation, police noticed evidence of a possible shooting victim at 838 Apt. 1 Anita Drive.

When fire officials forced their way inside the entry, they found 51-year-old Donald Townsend. He was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police do not yet have a motive for the shooting.

Investigators charged Kavon D. Chalmers, 32, of 890-1 Johnson Street with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. He is currently in the Cumberland County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
