Man charged in fatal Goldsboro shooting

A Goldsboro man was arrested Sunday morning after, police say, he shot and killed a man during an altercation in his yard.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Goldsboro man was arrested Sunday morning after, police say, he shot and killed a man during an altercation in his yard.

Stevie Denardo Simmons, 41, of 610 W. Walnut St., faces one count of murder. He was being held without bond Sunday in the Wayne County jail.

Investigators say Simmons shot Tyree Louis Simmons, 23, of 317 Hollowell Street, around 9:48 p.m. Saturday. After being shot, Tyree Simmons ran down the street to 101 Georgia Avenue, where he collapsed on the kitchen floor and died.

His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh for an autopsy.

The two men are not related.
