DURHAM, N.C. — Police charged a Durham man in the Friday morning robbery of a local bank.

A man walked into the Wachovia branch at 3600 N. Duke St. at about 9:35 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money, police said. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robber was described as white, 6 feet tall, with a slender build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with "USMC" in white letters on it and dark pants.

A short time later, officers took a man matching that description into custody at an apartment complex at 901 Chalk Level Road, police said.

Gavin Clapp, 40, of 901 Chalk Level Road, was charged with common-law robbery and was being held in the Durham County jail under a $10,000 bond.
