DURHAM, N.C. — A local man was arrested Tuesday night in connection with a drive-by shooting in July that left one man dead, police said.

Lamont Charles Johnson, 27, of Gurley Street, was charged with murder in the July 1 shooting death of Darraies McClain on Cheek Road at Midland Terrace.

McClain, 26, of 321 Melbourne St., was driving on Cheek Road with his girlfriend when they stopped for a red light at Midland Terrace, police said. A gray sport utility vehicle pulled up next to them in the turn lane, and someone leaned out the window from the back seat and fired numerous shots at McClain's vehicle, police said.

McClain was shot at least once in the side, and his girlfriend drove him to Durham Regional Hospital, where he died, police said.

McClain and Johnson knew each other, according to investigators.
