RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police arrested a 26-year-old man and charged him in connection with a Dec. 26 shooting at an apartment complex near North Carolina State University's Centennial Campus.

Sean Lamar Melvin was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and was being held in the Wake County Detention Center.

The shooting happened in the 600 block of Chappell Drive, off Avent Ferry Road, shortly before 9:30 p.m. Police said a robbery in an apartment led to the gunfire.

Jamelle Leshaea Williams, 26, who was shot in the back, was taken to WakeMed for treatment of what police called serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

A man who lives in the complex said he came home from dinner to find Williams shot on the floor of his apartment.

A woman who lives in the complex said she was watching a movie with her grandsons and didn't hear any gunshots but was alerted to the shooting as the victim banged on apartment doors for help.
