Man Charged in Chapel Hill Assault Extradited From Maryland
A convicted sex offender wanted in connection with a series of assaults on women has been returned to North Carolina from Maryland.
Posted — UpdatedDaniel Anthony Berarducci is charged with assault on a female and sexual battery in a Jan. 9 incident on Hillsborough Street. A woman told police a man grabbed her as she walked down the street.
Authorities are still investigating whether Berarducci is also linked to a similar incident that day on a walking trail near Forest Theater on the University of North Carolina campus.
Berarducci, who spent three years in prison for kidnapping and taking indecent liberties with a child, also has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender.
He was arrested in Maryland in April and was extradited to North Carolina on Tuesday.
