Man charged after woman stabbed at Raleigh apartment

Police have charged a man in connection with a stabbing in Raleigh that sent a woman to a local hospital Wednesday evening.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police have charged a man in connection with a stabbing in Raleigh that sent a woman to a local hospital Wednesday evening.

John Frederick Jenkins, 49, faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in the stabbing of Yolanda Purcell, 26.

Police were called to Westridge Woods Apartments, at 308 Buck Jones Road, around 5:15 p.m.

Purcell was taken to Rex Hospital in a private vehicle, police said, and was later taken to WakeMed. She was in fair condition early Thursday.

Investigators haven't commented on a possible motive and said Wednesday night only that the two knew each other.
