CLAYTON, N.C. — A 38-year-old Clayton man has been charged with a hit-and-run after authorities say he drove his SUV into the front of a gas station.

George Stanton Ribar is charged with hit-and-run and driving with a revoked license, Clayton officials said Friday.

Investigators say Ribar was driving a Jeep Cherokee on Dec. 4 when it slammed into the front of the Handi Mart on U.S. Highway 70 West. The SUV jumped the cement blocks at the edge of the building and slammed into the front of the store.

The driver immediately backed up and drove away. No one was injured in the incident.

Ribar was arrested Thursday after authorities found his damaged SUV in a garage at his home on Damon Street. Repairs were being made to the vehicle, police said.

It's unclear why Ribar drove into the gas station. He was being held in the Johnston County jail Friday under a $2,500 secured bond.
