CLAYTON, N.C. — Police have arrested a Zebulon man after he allegedly tried to rape a woman in a convenience store parking lot in Clayton Saturday morning.

Investigators said Monday that a man wearing a bag over his face approached the woman, an employee at the store on U.S. Highway 70 West Business, around 6 a.m. as she reported for work and forced her into the back of her car and tried to assault her.

The woman was able to fight back and force the man out of her car before locking him out, authorities said. He ran away.

Kenneth Dobbins, 44, of 5547 Little Creek Road, was jailed Sunday morning under a $300,000 bond on charges of first-degree forcible sex offense and first-degree kidnapping.
