SPRUCE PINE, N.C. — A Yancey County man was arrested Monday after authorities say he allegedly took a fire truck for a joyride.

Matthew Ernest Miller, 19, of Burnsville, was jailed under an $11,000 bond on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony operation of red lights and siren, and impersonating a fireman.

Miller was arrested in Mitchell County in western North Carolina, after deputies stopped the truck, with its siren blaring.

Authorities say Miller jumped out of the truck and said he was a volunteer firefighter responding to a fire alarm.
