— A Wilson man drove himself to a local hospital Sunday after suffering extensive burns in a house fire, authorities said Monday.

Steve Coley, 54, escaped the fire at 4719 Wiggins Mill Road and drove to Wilson Medical Center. He was airlifted to the North Carolina Jaycees Burn Center at UNC Hospitals with burns over 90 percent of his body, authorities said.

Coley was listed in critical condition Monday.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

whaaaat, could you be any more insensitvie? Like whatever02 said, I'm sure all his belongings were burned too. If he's like most people, his phone was near him and if he was 90% burned, his phone was too. And he didn't live far at all from the hospital.
Yes, Obamacare for one and all, that definitely was superhero status. Unfortunately, he passed away earlier this week. My thoughts are prayers are with his family and friends.

Amazing he had the strength to drive himself to the hospital. Unfortunately, he passed away Monday evening. So sad.

Really? didn't have health insurance and couldn't afford the bill? Did you read the story? I would think he probably drove himself to the hospital because his phone and cell phone were burned just like he was so he couldn't call 911 for an ambulance or maybe he was thinking straight enough to know he lived 10 minutes from the hospital so he could get there faster than the ambulance could get to him and get him there. It's amazing that he could drive in the shape he was in. They found his beloved dog's body yesterday and they took him off life support this morning so please show some respect as the family is struggling. My thoughts and prayers are with all of them.

man o man....that took some doing I'd guess. Wonder why he did that? Hopefully he will recover quickly, that's a large area for sure.

That poor man is going to need a miracle from God to survive this. Not only because of the pain but the high risk of infection. Hopefully if his will to live is strong, he will get through this but it is a very long road to recovery.

How horrific! I can only imagine that burning would have to be one of the worst things to ever endure. May God lay a healing hand on this man, and remove his pain.
