Man arrested in shooting of 13-year-old

Posted March 4, 2010

— Rocky Mount police have charged an 18-year-old man with shooting a 13-year-old boy at a Delphia Drive house in February.

Trae Hakeem Crandell was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a stolen firearm. He was being held in the Edgecombe County Jail Wednesday.

The victim is recovering, police said Wednesday.

Police said that although it initially appeared that the shooting might have been accidental, they decided to file charges after further investigation and consultation with the District Attorney's Office.

Crandell has a single previous conviction for resisting an officer in 2008, according to state Department of Correction records.

Never get tired of seeing the "Photo" in front of the gray wall. The names change, but always seem to look the same.

Where does it say they are charging him to the max? It just says they took him into custody. They initially thought it was an accident. Maybe some evidence came up that it wasn't an accident. With all the crime in RM right now, maybe they are using him as a example.

so, basically, he shot the kid by accident and they want to throw the book at him, so they are charging him to the max...

I kinda don't agree with that... but, he needs to be responsible for making bad decisions...
