Man arrested in robbery of Raleigh bank

Posted January 25, 2010

— Authorities have arrested a suspect in Monday’s robbery of BB&T bank, 8521 Brier Creek Parkway in Raleigh.

Raleigh police said around 9:30 a.m. an armed and masked man robbed the bank.

Officers responding to the scene circulated the area and spotted a man matching the suspect’s description. Police said the man ran away from the officer and into a nearby shopping area. He went into a restaurant where a K-9 and patrol officers detained him.

The suspect, 47-year-old Xavier Hosea Shaw, is charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Shaw was also served with an outstanding warrant, which charges him with assault on a female.

Shaw was taken to the Wake County jail.

My husband works right in front of the BB&T and said his co-worker saw the guy before he robbed the bank just walking around looking into all the stores but didn’t really pay too much attention to him and then after the robbery went down they saw him over by the sushi restaurant where he dropped all the money and then cops came from every different direction. I just don’t get it, if you’re going to rob a bank, why are you going to pick such a highly populated area?? Duh!

Not much information here, i.e. suspect's record, were there customers in the bank, etc. Are bank robberies becoming so commonplace that they aren't even worth a phone call from a reporter to get a little more information. It's so scary to think that you could be standing in line at a bank, or anywhere else for that matter, and suddenly be in the middle of a robbery.

And, monkeyboy, I know. I thought the same thing when I read it...
