Man Arrested in Durham Shooting Death

Posted August 3, 2007

— A Durham man was arrested Friday and charged with the Wednesday morning slaying of another man outside a local apartment complex, police said.

Kenyon Akeem Deloatch, 24, of James Street, was arrested Friday morning and charged with murder in connection with the death of 25-year-old Randolph Ladarius James of Glasson Street.

Officers were called to the Oakley Square apartment complex at 1835 Cheek Road early Wednesday and found James lying in the parking lot. He had been beaten and then shot multiple times, police said.

James was transported to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told officers they had heard loud voices followed by the sound of gunshots. Police said they believe several people were involved in the altercation, and they are seeking more information in the case.

Anyone with information about the slaying is asked to call Sgt. Jack Cates of the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440, extension 262, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.

Thank you Durham-Raleigh for your comments. I agree. I'm a white guy who loves Durham. I've got a great job here, and a house I can afford, that has appreciated in value considerably since I bought it 9 years ago. Do I wish some things were different? Certainly. Throwing stones like Know All accomplishes nothing constructive. It's just like that greeting card where two 60 plus year old women are lying on the beach. One of the women is rolling her eyes, while the other one talks incessantly. The saying on the inside states "you keep talking, but you ain't saying nothing." I think this applies to some of the folks on this forum....

Leave them alone and they will eliminate themselves.

Thug/ghetto trash on parade. Nothing new, nothing surprising, and apparently perfectly acceptable to "the community" or it wouldn't be such a ho-hum, biz-as-usual story. And Durham-Raleigh, I live in Durham because I can't afford the housing prices in Raleigh/Cary/Chapel Hill, not because I'm happy about living in Durham. I was foolish enough to buy a house in Durham 15+ years ago and housing appreciation in this 3rd world dystopia has lagged so far behind the rest of the Triangle that I'm stuck for now. But do, by all means, call me a racist for pointing out reality. Calling people names is much easier than addressing reality.

You are so right..... And by the way, Will never live there. Just buy the fence. Please.....for the sake of the other good people besides yourself. Trust me. "I Know."

"Durham/Durham/Durham, where is that fence they ordered for downtown? it is much needed. Trust me. I Know."

If you know so much, "Know All," you might realize that Cheek Road is, in fact, *not downtown.*

I am astounded by the regular racist drivel that makes its way onto this board about Durham. KFC taunts and calls for Jesse/Al.

Most of the people making these taunts don't live in Durham. And believe me, we DON'T WANT YOU here. Those of us who choose to live here are happy to do so.

I've been waiting to see the report of how several shots were fired at cops in Durham yesterday or the day before. They were talking to a resident, parked in their car, daylight. Several shots were fired and hit the back end of their unmarked cruiser.

N&O carried it, Herald Sun carried it.

I am speaking in general terms to all of those out there who show up and protest everytime they are going to execute someone. I don't care how much evidence there is against a person there is always a group of bleeding hearts there to preach about the criminals rights. It's goten to the point that a murderer has more rights than the person that they murdered. I'm not sure that these people are really against the punishment but just want to rant against something. It just does not make sense to me to for one person to take another's life and expect to go free or spend their days with most of their buddies in prison. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that prison is summer camp but it's far better then what the other person got. Death.

oneday8035 - you wrote: "Maybe if it was one of your family members that was raped, robbed and murdered by one of these thugs you would feel differently. "

To whom are you speaking? I do not see anything before your post that would elicit such a comment. Are you speaking to a general "you" or are you speaking directly to us?

Other than to the mother of the one who was killed what does it really matter? One thug taking another off the streets and himself in the process sounds like a great day for Durham. How many of you are fooling yourselves by thinking that these two would be productive members of society? Yes, there are the bleeding hearts that think that they could have been saved but you also don't believe in the death penalty either I bet. Maybe if it was one of your family members that was raped, robbed and murdered by one of these thugs you would feel differently. They should take a torch to areas of Durham like Cheek Road and maybe Durham would be as safe a place to live as you all seem to think Raleigh is. Right!
