Man arrested in Clayton shooting

Police on Monday arrested a man wanted for a weekend shooting in a mobile-home park and also picked up a woman wanted on drug-trafficking charges.

CLAYTON, N.C. — Police on Monday arrested a man wanted for a weekend shooting in a mobile-home park and also picked up a woman wanted on drug-trafficking charges.

Clayton detectives developed information that the suspect, Frankie Devone Clark, 48, of 705 Lakeview Drive, was staying at a home in Johnston County. They arrested Clark at 3607 Polenta Road in the Cleveland area.

Clark has been accused of shooting Dwight Thomas Ray, 37, of Clayton, with a handgun on Saturday. Investigators say the shooting took place in the front yard of Clark's house in the Clayton Estates Mobile Home Park, off N.C. Highway 42.

Ray was listed in stable condition at WakeMed in Raleigh on Sunday evening.

Clayton detectives also located Jennifer Cameron, 31, who was wanted on felony drug charges at the Polenta Road home.

Clark faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine. He was being held in the Johnston County Jail under a $100,000 bond.

Cameron was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, sale and delivery of cocaine, and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling to sell controlled substances. She was jailed in Johnston under a $25,000 bond.

Clark has a lengthy criminal record in Johnston dating to 1976, including a previous conviction for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He has been convicted for armed robbery and numerous drug-possession and -trafficking charges.
