— Raleigh police have arrested a suspect in connection with an attempted rape last month in which a woman reported that a man tried to attack her after bumping her bicycle with his SUV.

Police said Monday that Philippe Warren Joseph Saieed, 29, of 1536 Sunbow Falls Lane, Apt. 108, Raleigh, was arrested on charges of attempted rape, assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon in the June 18 attack near Cameron Village.

A 22-year-old woman told police she was riding her bike from a nearby grocery store around 2:30 a.m. when a man, whom police say was Saieed, hit her rear tire with his 2006 Ford Escape.

According to a search warrant for the vehicle, investigators say Saieed then offered her a ride home, but instead of taking her home, he tried to rape her on a residential street. The woman was able to escape.

A man matching his description and the description the woman gave of her attacker had been captured on the grocery store's surveillance video prior to the attack, according to the warrant. Investigators found clothing in the SUV similar to what the man had been wearing – a dark-colored New York Yankees hat, white gym shorts and blue T-shirt.

Police arrested Saieed after North Carolina State University police recognized him from a police alert and from surveillance images released in the media.

They had arrested him on a charge of assault on a female in a March 26 assault case that happened on campus.

Bubba: I'm with you. I'm glad she was unharmed, is safe, and was able to help get the guy arrested. BUT - who rides a bike to the grocery store at 2:30am and then gets into a car with a stranger? I wouldn't have thought to do that when I was young and naive!

While I am glad this woman was able to escape We are taught from a very young age not to go with strangers. Why would you put yourself in sucha dangerous position by getting into a vehicle with a man you do not know. Why not go back to the grocey store and phone a friend?

Sounds like the perp's Ford Escape didn't benefit him in getting away with his deed.

good job arresting him, not sure it was a smart thing to be out riding a bike at 2:30am, but on the other hand, she should have the right. I think I would have been a bit more careful at that time especially with someone who hit me - not a smart move need to be careful.

If those in the legal system spent some time on the streets then they might have some idea of how much of a threat woman face, this stuff is happening far too much anymore and a slap on the wrist is not working.

    jaclyneowens -

According to court records, this is his third attempt at this.

    From another source:

"Court records show Saieed is also charged in an assault on a female that occurred on the NCSU campus March 26. In that case, a university worker was headed to work about 5:30 a.m. when she said a man followed her out of a tunnel and grabbed her by the shoulders. She pulled away and screamed and then headed for an emergency phone.

A search warrant also shows Saieed is a suspect in an attack on another woman June 20."

When one of these perps does this to the female relative of a judge or legislator, closer monitoring of them will suddenly happen.

Until then, we common folk are on our own.

Good thing Zimmerman is still in custody. This guy is far less a threat. NOT!!

Just like the other "rape" stories recently I think I'll wait until a little bit more information comes out before I cast judgement.

This is so shocking. I attended middle school and graduated highschool with Phillipe. He was such a nice guy and the son of a well-respected teacher. He was one of the most popular guys in in our class at Broughton. I hate to think that he could have attempted such a heinous act. This is truly disappointing and very upsetting.
