— A Knightdale man's bank robbery attempt was over within a minute Friday.

Police said Richard Gardner Ennis, 50, 510 Sallinger St., entered the First Citizens Bank, at 101 Wakelon Drive in Zebulon, just after 5 p.m. and told an employee he planned to rob the place. Within a minute, police had arrived and arrested him.

Ennis had no weapons, got no money, and his truck was towed from the bank parking lot, police said.

It's a known fact that armored trucks carry weapons...no one messes with those trucks. Give all the bank employees a gun...even up the playing field.

"Not a lot of planing went into this robbery attempt! I'm glad he had no weapon, and the story gave no notion the would be robber implied he had one."

I used to service computer equipment and ATMs in banks. My company gave me an oversized WHITE badge and told me anytime I was in a bank to wear that; their reasoning was if the bank was robbed this badge would identify me as not being a bank employee. I told my boss, I would not wear it, because to me it presented an eye-catching TARGET. I never did wear that thing and luckily was never inside a bank during a robbery attempt. I think it is time for banks to put large tables piled with cash in their lobbies. They can label the tables "Cash for Robbers and Non-Depositors".

Wow, pre-announce your plan to commit a crime. At least this one brought his own vehicle. I do find it interesting that in some cases when people break laws, enforcement takes place. Too bad, that was not always the case.
