DNA helps police find suspect in 2010 Fayetteville sexual assault case

The Fayetteville Police Department Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit made an arrest on Wednesday for a sexual assault that occurred on Oct. 27, 2010 in the area of Eastern Blvd and Russell Street.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C.The Fayetteville Police Department Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit made an arrest on Wednesday for a sexual assault that occurred on Oct. 27, 2010 in the area of Eastern Blvd and Russell Street.

Purdys Jacobs, 50, of the 100 block of Bladen Circle, was arrested and charged with second-degree rape.

The victim in the case was 28-years-old at the time of the assault and was an acquaintances of Jacobs, authorities said.

Officials said the case was reopened after a follow up investigation identified that Jacobs was a suspect. DNA has linked Jacobs to the crime scene, authorities said.

Jacobs was being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $125,000 secured bond.
