RALEIGH, N.C. — A 54-year-old Raleigh man, listed as the director of Stevens Prep Academy, according to the school's website, was arrested Friday and charged with multiple sex-related charges involving minors.

Claude Mordecai Stevens, 54, of 901 Oak Creek Road, was charged with four counts of felony indecent liberties with a child and eight counts of felony statutory rape. According to warrants, the offenses occurred between Jan. 1, 2007 and Jan. 1, 2012. The victims involved were 13 years old at the time.

According to the school's website, Stevens is the current and sole operator of the school, located at the same address where he was arrested. Stevens has a doctorate and master's degree in educational counseling, and taught special education in Wake County in 1988, according to his online bio, although a Wake County Public Schools official said they have no record of his employment.

During his first court appearance Friday afternoon, he asked for a court-appointed attorney.

Stevens was being held in the Wake County Jail under a $5 million bond.
