Man arrested after weapons call at Walnut Creek Apartments

The Raleigh police SWAT team converged on the Walnut Creek Apartments Friday afternoon after the report of a man there with a gun.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh police SWAT team converged on the Walnut Creek Apartments Friday afternoon after the report of a man there with a gun.

They arrested Bryan Elliot Beatty Jr. on a charge of going armed to the terror of the public. Beatty, who lives in the apartment complex, was walking around the parking lot with a shotgun. He was making threats and waving the gun around, according to the arrest report. 

Police did not release any additional details of the incident.

Beatty, the son of Bryan Beatty, a long-time public servant and former secretary of the N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, has two other recent arrests on his record, according to the state Department of Correction. In November, he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. In December, with attempted breaking and entering of a vehicle.
