Chapel Hill, N.C. — A Durham man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police said he robbed someone outside a Chapel Hill bank.
A man was walking to the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 101 Banks Drive at about 1:10 p.m. when the robber grabbed a bank bag from him and fled in a gray sedan, police said. He was found nearby after abandoning the vehicle and was arrested following a brief chase on foot.
Denis Dion Smith, 38, of 509 Englewood Ave., was charged with common law robbery, felony larceny, felony possession of stolen goods, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, resist, obstruct or delay an officer, driving with a revoked license, careless and reckless driving and misdemeanor hit-and-run.
Smith was being held in the Orange County jail under a $100,000 bond.
