Man accused of trying to run down Durham officer

— A 23-year-old man was charged Thursday after Durham police said he tried to run down an officer.

The incident happened about 2:30 p.m.on Cheek Road as officers responded to a report of a suspicious person with a weapon.

When they arrived at the scene, a man intentionally tried to run down an officer. The man then led officers on a short vehicle chase before hitting two vehicles as he tried to get away, authorities said.

Montez Devon Brandon was charged with assault on an officer,  two counts of hit and run, speeding to elude arrest, failure to stop at a stop sign, resist, delay and obstruct, and careless and reckless driving. No one was hurt.

    I'm still scratching my head as to how that charge is not included. And not just Attp Murder but further to include "of a police officer". Of all the no-no's, that one falls right after Never Shoot at a Police Officer.

    There's no excuse for someone trying to run over a cop. None.

    Lock him up for a long time.

    Sure. Like this never happened until the NYC cop killing. Law enforcement has been running into people resisting or assaulting them for centuries. And although some in the last few decades have been set up ambushes, the vast majority are just law breakers trying to get away.
