— Wayne County investigators said that a 26-year-old man befriended a 15-year-old child in hopes of having sex.

Linwood Earl Nicholson Jr., of 762 W. Oak St., was arrested Friday on one charge of attempted statutory rape.

Detectives said that Nicholson called and text messaged the child and took the child to school twice without the parents' knowledge. Nicholson did not know the parents, investigators said.

He was being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $50,000 bond.

Another "sad" story -- he knew better, yet he probably didn't care or didn't think NO ONE else did (parents). Mothers/fathers sit your daughters/sons too down and talk to them!!! Cut off the TV'S, Internet (what a mess it has become) and have a one on one talk. Stop letting the schools and other social events ruin our kids lives. Yes, I do agree it's ashame how the younger generation of kids are dressing, acting and becoming. Why have kids- if you are NOT going to be a parent and protect and guide them the RIGHT way? the prison and cementaries are to full ....... what is it going to take ???? "Sudden Destruction"??? Wake UP parents and raise your kids!

How can someone say this child deserved it because kids dress in short skirts and low cut shirts??? HELLO? He's the adult in this situation! I don't care what someone has on...it doesn't give someone else the right to rape them (or, try to). This was a CHILD...not a 35 year old woman that knows better and could defend herself! And, for ther person talking about her texting him...she may of thought he was much younger. People lie to kids all the time to gain their trust. Personally..I think he should serve lots of time to keep him from doing this to someone else! I certainly don't want him around my daughter!! Would you??

Look how these girls are dressing these days. And their parents know it too. Then when something like this happens, the parents wants to cry the blues. When they wear low cut top and high top skirts and lots of make-up, what do an average "Joe" expects. This shows parents are not talking to their daughters. How sad is that. So all the blame should not be pointed at this man, the girls and her parents are responsible for their share of the blame.

    Sicko!

WRAL won't let me put what I want to say here.

    Praying for the child.

    God bless.

He should serve 60 years in prison. He knew better. Yes, I agree with the below comments about young girls looking older and going after older men. Parents talk to your daughters. This is a dangerous game they are playing.

Who's to say the 15 year old girl didn't want to have sexual relations with him...maybe the parents caught them. You just never know these days.

I meant to say that Jones comment was a typical one made by her kind. And grown men attempting to have sex with teens have nothing to do with color. SOME grown men for whatever sick reason like teeny boppers. And those men come in all differ colors, shapes and sizes. So save your attempt at posting an inciteful comment for another story. This is not the one.

Mr. Nicholson now stands convicted in the empty courtroom of certain WRAL posters' minds.

The 15 year old minor also stands accused by an overzealous victim-blamer who probably also believes women get raped for dressing too provocatively or for "asking for it".
