Man accused of trying to drive through checkpoint

Wake County authorities arrested a Raleigh man late Friday for allegedly trying to drive through a DWI checkpoint at Poole and Barwell roads.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County authorities arrested a Raleigh man late Friday for allegedly trying to drive through a DWI checkpoint at Poole and Barwell roads.

Dominique Dotson, 20, of 5021 Sedgwick Drive, almost hit an officer with his vehicle while trying to flee, according to the arrest warrant.

Dotson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, eluding arrest, provisional DWI and driving with a revoked license. He also had outstanding warrants from Raleigh police for first-degree breaking and entering and second-degree larceny.

Authorities arrested 89 people in all at the checkpoint for various violations.

Dotson was being held in the Wake County Jail under a $46,000 bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Monday.
