ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Police charged a Rocky Mount man after he allegedly stole another man's two pit bulls Monday and shot and killed one dog.

The victim found that a male and a female pit bull were missing from a secured location on his property, police said. A witness told the man that his dogs were at 1026 Nashville Road.

The man went to that address and spoke with Gregory Earl Horton-Daugherty, 25, police said. The dog owner discovered that his male pit bull had been shot and killed. He retrieved the female pit bull safely and the male dog's carcass.

Police arrested Horton-Daugherty on two counts of larceny of a dog and one count each of cruelty to animals and discharging a firearm in the city limits. He was given a $10,000 bond.
