Man accused of starting fire under I-85 causing collapse to appear in court

ATLANTA, GA — Basil Eleby, the man accused of starting the fire under I-85 that caused a section of the roadway to collapse, is expected to appear in court Friday morning.
The collapse on March 30 crippled traffic in Atlanta for months before reopening in mid May.
Eleby was released from jail on May 17 and this will be the first time he's appeared in court since he was granted bond. He'll appear in court for a status hearing to make sure he's adhering to the conditions of his bond.
Eleby is accused of first-degree arson and criminal damage to property. Court documents show he started the fire by burning a chair in a shopping cart but his attorneys say he is being made a scapegoat.
They blame the Georgia Department of Transportation for storing flammable material under the interstate.
CBS46 will be in the courtroom and will have a live report at Noon.
