Man accused of severely beating Linden man

Cumberland County sheriff's deputies arrested a man accused of severely beating a Linden man.

LINDEN, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff's deputies arrested a man accused of severely beating a Linden man.

Deputies found Steven Wayne Page, 25, lying unconscious near Wall and Hillsboro streets shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday.

Detectives said that Jeremy Sturtz, 31, of Giles Road, got into an argument with Page and then beat him.

Page suffered facial lacerations, fractures and subdural hematoma during the beating.

Page was treated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center but remained unconscious and in serious condition. He was transferred to Duke University Hospital later Saturday.

Sturtz faces charges of first-degree kidnapping, felony conspiracy and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond Saturday. His first court date was set for Monday, Oct. 27.

Investigators said that they expect to make more arrests and file additional charges in the case.
